DOT & UN/ISO Cylinders
Kaplan Industries is a just-in-time supplier. We cannot afford to have an interruption in our supply chain, so we purchase cylinders from multiple continents. We purchase cylinders domestically, from Europe, South America and the Pacific rim.
Kaplan Industries carry both. The vast majority of our cylinders are DOT. The Ultra High-Pressure cylinders 4500 PSI to 6000 PSI and higher upon request are UN/ISO.
The DOT and UN/ISO specifications are two unique and different standards for the production of high-pressure gas cylinders. The DOT specification has long been the standard for American production. In the late seventies the United Nations, as part of its quest to harmonize existing codes, developed the UN/ISO standard allowing gas cylinders produced in one country to be used internationally. This was of great benefit to the international gas companies. They were now allowed to transport cylinders from one country to another without the restriction of national codes. The major technical difference in the codes is their tensile requirements. Tensile strength has a direct influence on the ductility of the cylinder, which can dramatically impact a cylinder’s longevity. The most obvious difference is the markings. The UN/ISO cylinders do not have any familiar DOT markings. All the values marked on the cylinders use the international metric system.
The UN/ISO cylinders we stock for 4500 and 6000psi cylinders meet the requirements of UN/ISO-9809-2, but they are not suitable for use with hydrogen because of the possibility of hydrogen embrittlement.
We do carry a fiber wrapped 6000psi cylinder that is compatible with Hydrogen and weighs about 50lbs less than our standard steel ISO 6000.
Valves
We do carry and stock many different valve manufacturers, for the same reason we have multiple cylinder manufacturers. We simply cannot afford any supply chain interruptions. It also allows us to provide our customers with valves from the manufacturer they prefer. We do our best to keep pricing reasonable and competitive.
We have a CGA valve outlet reference chart to assist you with your basic gas concerns.
There are many different inlet designations for high-pressure cylinders; the most common is ¾-14NGT. Most UN/ISO cylinders, especially 4500 and 6000, use an E25 thread, which is less likely to leak because of the tightness of the thread.
No one can guarantee no neck leakers! Kaplan Industries employees use a double insertion technique that virtually eliminates leakers. To install a valve correctly, we follow all the CGA guidelines. No amount of Teflon tape or paste can hold back 2400 PSI you must have 1st thread engagement, a metal-to-metal seal that prevents leakage
Paint & Customization
We absolutely can. If you provide spats, WSR number, or your company’s custom color, our team can match your signature paint colors.
We offer embossed neck rings, the ability to use a state-of-the-art stamping machine, multicolored paint schemes, and custom stencils. Please look at the product page for more information.
Shipping Cylinders
20 depending on the weight of the cylinders.
The number of cylinders that can fit on a pallet varies depending on the cylinder’s size, weight, and manufacturer specifications.
Please refer to the attached PDF sheet if you would like to learn more about a specific cylinder.
Hydrocarbon Gas
All our Hydrocarbons are Certified 99.5% + Instrument Purity and only packaged in DOT-approved cylinders. Prior to every filling, each cylinder, new or recycled, undergoes our proprietary “Kaplan Wash” to ensure the highest level of cleanliness.
We also have an onsite analyzer to provide detailed COAs for each order we produce.
Our Timelines & Policies
For the cylinders we have in stock, our timeline can vary from roughly two to four weeks. Your sales manager will be able to assist with getting this answer based on your specific order.
There are a lot of variables that can alter this timeline, specifically based on personalization aspects.
We do offer a ready stock program for certain sizes and colored cylinders; those cylinders are usually ready to ship within 24 to 48 hours.
The normal turn time is 4 weeks, depending on the time of year that can fluctuate by a week in either direction.
We offer terms based on credit references that are sent in with your credit application, which can be found under our resources tab.
We usually offer Net 30 terms; however, for buying group members, we have 2% 10, Net 30 terms
