Over five decades ago, two brothers, Albert and Morris Kaplan, founded an independent surplus company that still bears their name to this day. Working out of a small Philadelphia location seven days a week, the brothers, through hard work and common sense marketing, were able to supply local welding and fire protection distributor with compressed gas cylinders and related equipment.
In 1959, A-M Fire Equipment Company was founded. Upon acquiring UL approval, the company was one of the first distributors in this area to service the fire and safety distributors with their requirements for soda acid and CO2 fire extinguishers.
Through the growth of A-M Fire Equipment, Kaplan Industries, Inc. was formed, focusing on supplying their established customer base with an expanded line of new and reconditioned steel compressed gas cylinders.
Due to demand, Kaplan Industries, Inc. broadened its product line with the addition of reconditioned tube trailers, related cryogenic plants and equipment. This was accomplished through hands-on experience, hard work and dedication.
By 1969, due to the increase in business, this once modest operation had outgrown its small location in Philadelphia. Morris Kaplan set his sights on a larger facility located just across the river in a busy industrial section of Maple Shade, New Jersey. Today, this location is the national headquarters for an operation that covers sales coast to coast and has joint ventures around the globe.
By the mid 1980’s, two of Morris’ children, Dean and Rita, had become vital members of the company. Dean began at an entry level position. Through earnest dedication, he propelled himself to become President by his late twenties. Rita first began as a Customer Service Representative. Within five years, through a sincere desire to succeed, Rita obtained the position of Vice President.
By following the groundwork that had already been established, the company’s main focus is to fulfill the needs of the welding supply distributors as well as being a Q.P.L. supplier to the government for their requirements. Kaplan Industries, Inc. has not lost sight of its original commitment to accommodate the beverage industry, medical suppliers and the smallest of local businesses in need of their service. Through a committed staff, Kaplan Industries, Inc. has become a service-oriented company by meeting the needs of those they serve.
Today, Kaplan Industries, Inc. enjoys partnerships with manufacturers, not only limited to the U.S., but throughout the world, bringing the finest quality products that meet or exceed world wide specifications, including ISO 9000.
